As far as dumplings go, HuTong is touted as the best. The restaurant is split between two levels and has a warm contemporary appeal as you enter the building. The restaurant is also BYO wine only, making it the perfect place to dine with friends. Be sure to book in advance though as this place is extremely popular.

A fantastic outdoor spot on Tattersalls Lane off Chinatown, where the bar is a former shipping container, seating is made from pallets and cushions, and amazing street art adorn the walls. The service is great and the staff are very friendly; but perhaps the best part about Section 8 is sitting back and relaxing in the sunshine, enjoying a Coopers long neck or a tasty mojito.

This busy pub is a mecca for beer drinkers as it serves an enormous range of European beers with 20 of them on tap. The European Bier Café is found on the corner of Exhibition and Little Collins Street and though beer is the main game here, they serve very good pub grub too. The Toff is one level up from the bustling Cookie Bar on Swanston Street. The carriage bar stirs up images of a past era when train travel was popular and sets the perfect scene for a romantic get-together or friendly catch-up.

The beer, wine and cocktail lists are all a step up from your average bar fare, and when you need something to nibble on, the bites menu will surely delight with it's thoroughly modern yet slightly retro theme.  

The Toff is a popular night spot, while also being secluded enough for you to enjoy a good drink and some light hearted conversation.

If you are looking for something a bit more vertically inclined then this is the place for you. Simply make your way to 246 Russell Street, look for the Red Hummingbird sign above the doorway and head upstairs to the main room. The rooftop bar provides a great spot to take in the buzz of the city.

Red Hummingbird is very popluar and with good reason too, the cocktails are very good, making use of a variety of fresh fruit and juices. The place can get pretty packed though, so get there early to secure a decent area.
