Eureka Skydeck

Easy walking distance from our hotel...

Towering 92 storeys high the magnificent Eureka Tower is an architectural masterpiece. The Skydeck 88 on level 88 is the highest viewing platform in the Southern Hemisphere, offering stunning 360 degree panoramic views of Melbourne.

Thrillseekers will get a kick out of the Skydeck's 'The edge' experience, where you are suspended 88 levels above the ground in a glass cube that slides out of the building. Eureka Skydeck is located at Southbank and is definitely a "must see" attraction when visiting Melbourne.

Royal Melbourne Zoo

A great day out for the whole family...

Royal Melbourne Zoo is located in Parkville, about a 20 minute tram ride from the Mercure Welcome. It is the oldest zoo in Australia and boasts over 320 amazing species for viewing.

Cookie is one Melbourne's best kept secrets. Located across the street from the Mercure Welcome, Cookie sits proudly in Swanston Street's Curtain House. Self described as a disco, eating house and beer hall, Cookie has a buzzy atmosphere and serves serves simply amazing modern Asian fare with a Thai influence.

HuTong Dumling Bar

Mouth watering dumplings...

As far as dumplings go, HuTong is touted as the best. The restaurant is split between two levels and has a warm contemporary appeal as you enter the building. On the ground floor you can see the dumplings being lovingly hand-crafted. It's highly recommended that you try the Shao Long Bao dumplings.

The restaurant is also BYO wine only, making it the perfect place to dine with friends. Be sure to book in advance though as this place is extremely popular.

Taking up 4 floors and hidden away in Hardware Lane, Campari House is a standout among the many restaurants that dot this buzzing laneway. +39 Pizzeria is a simple yet stylish establishment situated on Little Bourke Street. The restaurant is renowned for serving up great pizzas, however they also make very good pasta at reasonable prices.

If you have enough room after mains, you can stretch yourself into sampling one of their signature nutella calzones.

Section 8 Container Bar

Only in Melbourne; a bar made of shipping containers in a former carpark...

A fantastic outdoor spot on Tattersalls Lane off Chinatown, where the bar is a former shipping container, seating is made from pallets and cushions, and amazing street art adorn the walls. The service is great and the staff are very friendly; but perhaps the best part about Section 8 is sitting back and relaxing in the sunshine, enjoying a Coopers long neck or a tasty mojito.

European Bier Café

This busy pub is a mecca for beer drinkers as it serves an enormous range of European beers with 20 of them on tap. With beer that tastes this good you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a Bavarian beer hall at the Oktoberfest. The European Bier Café is found on the corner of Exhibition and Little Collins Street and though beer is the main game here, they serve very good pub grub too. So sit back and relax with a stein of genuine German weissbier.

The Toff in Town

The Toff is one level up from the bustling Cookie Bar on Swanston Street. The carriage bar stirs up images of a past era when train travel was popular and sets the perfect scene for a romantic get-together or friendly catch-up.

The beer, wine and cocktail lists are all a step up from your average bar fare, and when you need something to nibble on, the bites menu will surely delight with it's thoroughly modern yet slightly retro theme.  

The Toff is a popular night spot, while also being secluded enough for you to enjoy a good drink and some light hearted conversation.

Red Hummingbird

A funky rooftop bar...

If you are looking for something a bit more vertically inclined then this is the place for you. Simply make your way to 246 Russell Street, look for the Red Hummingbird sign above the doorway and head upstairs to the main room. The rooftop bar provides a great spot to take in the buzz of the city.

Red Hummingbird is very popluar and with good reason too, the cocktails are very good, making use of a variety of fresh fruit and juices. The place can get pretty packed though, so get there early to secure a decent area.
