SOAP AID, SAVING LIVES

Did you know 1.8 million children under 5 die each year due to hygiene related illnesses, which is why at the Mercure Welcome Melbourne, we proudly support Soap Aid.

The Soap Aid organization is a not-for-profit corporation founded in Australia; where they collect partially used and discarded soap from hotels, disinfect and repurpose to re-distribute to those who need it the most.

At the Mercure Welcome Melbourne, we have a clean container on our Housekeeper’s trolley for collecting waste soaps from guest rooms. We make sure to separate the waste soap from other waste items, and discard any soggy soaps. At the end of our shifts, we then collect all waste soaps from the trolley containers into specified Soap Aid cartons. Cartons then get picked up by Rotary Club and send for reprocessing. Soaps then get repackaged and get redistributed for children around the world.

On the behalf of our housekeeping team, we would like to announce the amazing news on reaching the milestone of “One Tonne” of recycled soap! Today, across the globe 2.4 billion people lack adequate sanitation. As a team, we look forward to continuing on saving lives around the world by reaching our next milestone of “Two Tonne” of recycled soap!
